New Toy

I am now an instructor at our local two-year college. Jacques hates how much time I have to spend working on lesson plans and lecture notes. He doesn’t like or understand that he can’t sit in my lap while I feverishly work on my next lesson. There’s a lot of grumbling and mumbling coming from the little pork chop as he voices his displeasure. In contrast, there’s a lot of giggling and border-line hysterical laughter coming from my husband, A3. Why is that? Well, amongst my school supplies, he’s found a new toy. This “toy” has turned a grown man into a giggling little boy who just can’t help himself.

I’m not going to lie – it’s pretty hilarious. (I mean, it took my late German shepherd about 30 seconds to figure out that I was messing with him.) But I also feel a little bad for my totally neurotic, OCD Westie who will look for that light for close to an hour at a time. (I wish I was exaggerating, but I’m not.) Not even an offer of a treat or a snuggle will break his Westie focus. He. Must. Get. The. Light.

“Must. Get. Light.” (a few minutes later) “Wait! Where did it go??” (20 minutes later) “I know it is here somewhere!”

A3’s argument is that it keeps Jacques occupied and keeps him out of my lap while I work. That is a true statement. I just worry about the potential “harm” it may do to his already insane-too-tightly-wound-neurotic-OCD brain.

  1. The laser pointer is my favorite!!! I could run with it forever if Mom would let me. I know where the light comes from so once she puts it away, I stop looking for it. Mom’s brother had a rottweiler who got all messed up in the head from it. He played with it a couple times and after that, he always stared at the walls and ceilings. Poor guy. I wish Jacques and I could chase the laser together! *ear licks* Noodle P.S. Congrats on your new job, Miss Jacques’ Mom!

    • I would love it if you & Jacques could chase the laser together! He needs a buddy… We are not ready to adopt another dog and I think he gets a little lonely – especially now that I don’t have as much time to cater to his every need. lol Him getting even more messed up in the head (like your uncle’s Rottweiler) is what I’m concerned about. Thank you for the kind words and support, Noodle! Be sure to tell your mom that I was thinking of her just this morning. I hope that she is on the road to recovery from her accident. I know how tough it can sometimes be. Sending puppy power and love to you guys!

      • I think I’d get along with Jacques. He’s my size. Doesn’t look too overbearing. Maybe you could take Macy and send me Jacques? Mom said thank you. She’s still having problems typing and that’s why I was missing for almost a week again. ❤ *ear licks* Noodle

  2. Shelby loved the video. She just kept on growling. There was very little sound, but it got her engaged. Sid and Sophie did not know why she was reacting. What subject are you teaching? I’m a former mathematics teacher on the junior high school level.

  3. You get the light Jacques! Maddie may not be OCD, but what focus she has! If she’s convinced that there’s a lizard under the flower pot or anywhere else out on the terrace, she will circle around, scratch, paw, bite, push, and do whatever it requires to find that lizard! And when she does, it’s lights out for the poor thing. One of her nicknames is Psycho Killer.
